Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 25 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and us about how Plai Date works. We have tried to write them the way we write everything else — plainly, and without burying anything. Where we can only promise something narrow, we have said the narrow thing rather than the flattering one.
Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Octi Connect, LLC ("we," "our," or "us") governing your use of the Plai Date app and this website. By using Plai Date, you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the service.
Octi Connect is the company that makes Plai Date. Plai Date is our first product, and we expect it will not be our last, which is why the two have different names. Anything we say here about how we treat your content applies to Octi Connect as a whole, not just to this app.
Who can use Plai Date
You must be 18 or older. Plai Date is built for adult relationships, it is not moderated the way a service for young people would need to be, and we are not willing to pretend otherwise. We may ask you to confirm your age, and we will close any account we believe belongs to someone under 18.
You need to provide accurate information when you sign up, keep your account secure, and let us know if you think someone else has got into it. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
Your account, and your space
Plai Date works in pairs. When you connect with someone, you create a shared space that belongs to both of you. Practically, that means:
- Most of what you put in the space is meant to be seen by the other person. Some of it becomes visible through reciprocity rather than immediately — you answer today's reflection, and answering is what unlocks theirs. Treat the space as shared.
- A few things are walled off on purpose. Your own reflection answers and the words you record about how you are feeling are never used as material inside games for the other person to play against.
- Either of you can leave. Leaving removes your access; it does not delete the other person's account or their contributions.
- If you delete your account, your profile and your contributions go with it. The other person's do not. Things the two of you made together stay in their space in whatever form survives your contribution being removed.
What you put in
Your content stays yours. You keep ownership of everything you write, photograph and upload. You give us a limited licence to store it, process it and show it to the person you share your space with — which is what makes the service work, and nothing beyond that.
You are responsible for having the right to share what you share.
You can ask us for a copy of your content at any time, and we will give you one in a format you can actually open. You do not need a reason, and asking does not close your account.
What we will never do
These are commitments, not preferences:
- We will not sell your content or your personal information, to anyone, for any amount.
- We will not use your content to advertise to you, and we will not sell advertising space inside Plai Date.
- We will not use your content to train AI models — ours or anyone else's.
If the company changes hands. The three commitments above travel with the service. If Octi Connect is acquired, merges, or transfers Plai Date to another company, we will require that company to honour them in writing as a condition of the transfer. If for any reason it will not, we will tell you at least 30 days before the transfer takes effect, and you will be able to export everything and close your account first. We would rather bind our own successors than ask you to trust them.
What not to do
Please do not use Plai Date to:
- Harass, threaten, abuse or coerce anyone — including the person you share a space with
- Share content that is illegal, or that sexualises minors in any way
- Share intimate images of someone without their consent
- Impersonate someone else, or connect with someone under false pretences
- Break into, scrape, overload or reverse-engineer the service
- Use the service for anything unlawful
We can suspend or close accounts that do these things. You can block the person you are connected with, and you can report them to us, from inside the app — reports about the safety of a child are escalated separately and immediately. If you are in a relationship that has become unsafe, you can leave a space at any time, and we would encourage you to reach out to a local support service. Plai Date is not equipped to intervene.
Artificial intelligence
Some of what you see in Plai Date — reflection prompts, suggestions, game content — is generated by an AI model. It can be wrong, odd, or badly timed. It is there to give you a place to start, not to advise you.
The AI in Plai Date will describe what happened in your shared space. It will not tell you what your partner feels, wants or means, and it does not offer readings you did not ask for. That is a design rule, and we hold ourselves to it.
Plai Date is not therapy, counselling, or medical advice. It is not a substitute for professional help, and it should not be treated as one. If you are struggling, please talk to someone qualified.
Security, plainly
Plai Date is not end-to-end encrypted, and it cannot be: the app reads what is in your space so it can hand it back to you when you ask, and something that reads your words cannot also be blind to them. Notifications are encrypted before they leave us, so the services that carry them do not carry your words. Everything else sits in a database we can technically reach and do not read, except where we must to keep the service running or where the law requires it. Our Privacy Policy sets out the detail.
Availability
We aim to keep Plai Date running, but we do not promise it will always be available or bug-free. Plai Date is currently in early access, which means features will change, things will occasionally break, and we may need to take the service down to fix them. We will give notice where we reasonably can.
Keep your own copies of anything you could not bear to lose. We take backups, but we cannot guarantee recovery in every circumstance.
Price
Plai Date is a paid product. We charge for it because a subscription is the only business model that lets us make the commitments above and mean them.
Plai Date is free during early access. When we begin charging, the subscription is one price per couple, not per person, and it will be published on this site before it starts. We will tell you clearly before anything costs money, and you will never be charged without agreeing to it first.
Once subscriptions are live:
- Payment is taken by Apple or Google through your app store account, not by us directly. We never see your card details.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it renews.
- You cancel and manage the subscription in your app store account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- Refunds are handled by the app store under its own policy. Write to us anyway if something has gone wrong and we will help where we can.
- If we change the price, we will tell you at least 30 days ahead, and the new price only applies after that notice and only if you keep the subscription.
Ending things
You can delete your account from inside the app at any time, or from plaidate.com/delete-account. You do not need to email us and you do not need to explain. If you would rather ask a person, write to hello@plaidate.com and we will action it.
Deletion runs on two clocks. Your account and content become inaccessible immediately, and are permanently purged after 30 days — a window that exists so an accidental deletion can be undone, not so we can keep your data. Content you delete individually inside the app is purged after 7 days. The only exception is records we are legally required to preserve, which are held under a legal hold and are not used for anything else.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, or where we are required to by law. If we do that without cause, we will tell you why.
Our intellectual property
Plai Date, its name, its logo, its design and its software are owned by Octi Connect, LLC and protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute or create derivative works from the service without our written permission. This does not affect your ownership of your own content.
If you believe something on Plai Date infringes your copyright, write to hello@plaidate.com with enough detail to identify the work and where it appears, and we will look into it.
The app stores
Plai Date is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Those companies are not parties to these Terms and are not responsible for the app, but they may enforce these Terms against you as third-party beneficiaries. Your use of the app is also subject to the store's own terms. Any support question about Plai Date itself comes to us, not to them.
Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Plai Date is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any AI- generated content will be accurate or suitable.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Octi Connect, LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, use or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law allows.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Octi Connect, LLC and its officers, directors, employees and agents from claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses arising from your use of the service or your breach of these Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Marin County, California, and you and we both consent to that jurisdiction.
Nothing in these Terms takes away a right you have under the consumer protection law of the place you live that cannot be given up by agreement.
Changes
We may update these Terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, so you have time to export your content and leave if you would rather. Continuing to use Plai Date after that means you accept the new Terms.
The rest
If any part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If we do not enforce something straight away, that does not mean we have given it up. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about the service.
