Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 July 2026
Plai Date is a private space for two people. We do not sell your data, we do not show you advertising, and we do not embed third-party trackers or analytics SDKs in the app. What follows is the detail behind that.
Who we are
Plai Date is operated by Octi Connect, LLC ("Plai Date," "we," "our," or "us"). This policy covers the Plai Date mobile app and this website.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your phone number. Plai Date signs you in with your phone number. It is how we identify your account and how your person finds you.
- Your profile. Your display name, and an avatar if you add one.
- What you put in your space. Messages, reflections, photos, saved ideas, plans, game answers, and the goals you set for the relationship.
- Links you share. When you share a link into your space, we fetch public preview information about that page (title, description, image) so the card looks like something.
- Your email, if you join the waitlist. On this website only. See "The waitlist" below.
Information collected automatically
- Crash and error reports. When the app breaks, we receive a report describing what broke, along with device model and OS version. These are used to fix bugs and nothing else.
- Push notification tokens. A device identifier issued by Apple or Google so we can deliver notifications you have opted into.
We do not collect precise location, we do not build advertising profiles, and there are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
Who can see what you write
Your space is shared with exactly one other person: the person you connected with. Nobody else on Plai Date can see it. Access is enforced on the server, not just in the app — someone who is not a member of your space cannot read it even with a modified client.
Our staff do not read your messages, photos or reflections as a matter of course. Access to production data is limited to the people who need it to operate the service, and is used for things like restoring data or investigating a specific reported problem.
How your information is used
- To run the service: signing you in, connecting you with your person, delivering messages and photos, and sending notifications you asked for.
- To generate the reflection prompts, suggestions and games that make the app useful.
- To keep the service working — diagnosing crashes, preventing abuse, and keeping accounts secure.
- To contact you about the service, and — if you joined the waitlist — to tell you when there is room for you.
Artificial intelligence
Some Plai Date features are generated by an AI model: reflection prompts, conversation starters, activity suggestions and parts of the games. To produce something relevant rather than generic, the app sends a limited slice of context — for example, the goal you set, or the recent shape of a conversation — to our AI provider, Anthropic, which returns the generated text.
Anthropic does not use this content to train its models, and the data is not retained by them for any purpose beyond serving the request and their own abuse monitoring. We do not send your phone number or your contacts. We do not use AI to profile you, score you, or make decisions about you.
If you would rather not use these features, you can leave them alone — the private space, chat, photos and plans all work without them.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Full stop. We do rely on a small number of service providers to operate, and they process data on our behalf under contract:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, file storage and push delivery. This is where your space lives.
- Anthropic — the AI model behind generated prompts and suggestions, as described above.
- Twilio — SMS delivery for sign-in codes and invitations.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting.
- Apple and Google — app distribution and push notification delivery.
Beyond those, we will only disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety. If we are ever acquired, your information would transfer with the service, and we would tell you before that happened.
The waitlist
If you sign up on this website, we store the email address you gave us, your person's email address if you added one, and the time you signed up. That is the entire record — we do not log your IP address, your browser, or where you came from, and this site sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
We use it for one thing: telling you when there is room for you both. Reply to any message from us, or email hello@plaidate.com, and we will remove you.
This site loads the Mulish typeface from Google Fonts, which means Google receives a request from your browser when the page loads. That is the only third-party request the page makes.
How long we keep things
Your space and its contents are kept for as long as your account exists — that is rather the point, since the value of Plai Date is the record you build together. Crash reports are kept for 90 days. Waitlist entries are kept until you ask us to remove them or until we close the list.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Get a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is wrong
- Delete your account and your information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent you previously gave
To exercise any of these, email hello@plaidate.com and we will action it within 30 days. We will never charge you for it or make the service worse because you asked.
A note on deletion in a shared space. Because a space belongs to two people, deleting your account removes your access, your profile and your contributions. It does not delete the other person's account or the things they wrote. If you both want the space gone, you both need to ask.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to your space is enforced by server-side rules. We review those rules and test them against the kinds of attacks they are meant to stop. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise — but if something does go wrong that affects you, we will tell you.
Children
Plai Date is for adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Where your data lives
Our infrastructure is hosted in the United States. If you use Plai Date from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the US.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
